President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday announced that construction of the 32-kilometer Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge — set to become the country’s longest bridge — will begin before the end of 2025.
“Before the year ends, construction of the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge will begin,” Marcos said during his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA). “This 32-kilometer bridge will cross Manila Bay. The current five-hour drive from Mariveles to Naic will eventually be cut down to just 45 minutes.”
The P219.3-billion infrastructure project will link Brgy. Alas-asin in Mariveles, Bataan, to Brgy. Timalan Concepcion in Naic, Cavite. Once completed, the four-lane inter-island bridge is expected to significantly reduce travel time, ease traffic congestion, and boost economic activity in Central Luzon and Calabarzon.
First proposed in 2018, the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge is a flagship project under the government’s “Build Better More” infrastructure program. The bridge will also help decongest Metro Manila by providing a direct route between the southern and northern parts of Luzon without having to pass through the capital region.
Funded in part through official development assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the project recently concluded its detailed engineering design phase.
Officials expect the bridge to enhance trade, tourism, and investments in the region, as well as support faster disaster response in times of emergency.
