Rosario, Cavite — Despite days of gloomy weather, smiles returned to 160 fisherfolk families in Barangay Ligtong IV as they received grocery aid this week through a joint initiative led by several Rotary Clubs.

The relief operation, dubbed “Sagip Mangingisda” (Save the Fisherfolk), was spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Manila, Rotary Club of Rosario, Rotary Club of Dasmariñas, and Rotary Club of Cavite Export Processing Zone. The project aimed to support coastal families severely affected by recent storms and heavy flooding brought by the southwest monsoon.

“This is a big help to us fisherfolk, especially now that we haven’t been able to go out to sea for days due to bad weather,” said 44-year-old Zandy Baquiran, president of the local fisherfolk association in Barangay Ligtong IV. “Thank you to all the Rotary Clubs. Mabuhay kayo!”

The project was made possible with the collaboration of other clubs from Rotary International District 3810, including Rotary Club of Cavite Uptown, RC Imus Independencia, and RC Tagaytay.

According to Rotary Club of Manila President Raoul Creencia, the clubs united under the leadership of District Governor Mary Mei Rodrigo to carry out the humanitarian effort.

The project, organizers said, not only addressed immediate needs but also demonstrated Rotary’s enduring commitment to uplifting communities — especially those whose livelihoods are tied to the sea.

The “Sagip Mangingisda” event served as a day of solidarity, compassion, and renewed hope for the fisherfolk of Rosario.
