DASMARIÑAS CITY, Cavite — Authorities recovered the bodies of two young boys who drowned in a river channel in Dasmariñas City, Cavite, following search and retrieval operations that began earlier this week, local officials confirmed Wednesday.
The victims, a 10-year-old boy from Barangay Sampaloc Zone 5 and a 5-year-old boy from Barangay Datu Ismael, drowned in separate incidents on June 24 but were believed to have been swept through the same river channel that runs through Summerwind Subdivision Phase 2 in Barangay Salitran 3.
The first drowning occurred at around 3:00 p.m., when the 10-year-old reportedly fell into the river near the Bautista property in Barangay Sampaloc. Roughly 30 minutes later, the second victim, aged five, went missing in a different location.
The Cavite Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) led the joint search, rescue, and retrieval operations, citing compacted garbage in the waterway as a major obstacle that complicated the search efforts.
“Our condolences go out to the families of the victims,” the Cavite PDRRMO said in an official update.
Authorities reminded residents to exercise caution around rivers and waterways, especially during the rainy season when strong currents and debris can pose heightened risks.
