BACOOR, Cavite – The City of Bacoor in Cavite province has called on taxpayers to fulfill their obligations following a recent Court of Tax Appeals (CTA) decision regarding the Manila Electric Company (MERALCO).
The CTA ruled on August 15, 2024, that MERALCO’s electric posts, transformers, and related assets are subject to real property tax under the Local Government Code, according to a statement released by the Bacoor city government.
The decision (CTA EB No. 2736) upholds previous rulings from assessment appeals boards, confirming that MERALCO cannot claim exemptions from real property tax for its assets since January 1, 1992.
Bacoor officials emphasized that the ruling reinforces the city’s stance on tax compliance. They urged all taxpayers, both individuals and businesses, to promptly meet their tax obligations.
“Timely tax payments are essential for supporting the city’s public services and development efforts,” the statement said.
The city government directed interested parties to access the full decision on the CTA website.
