Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino said the insurance company of the sunken oil tanker MT Terra Nova will compensate not only the affected Cavite fishermen but also market vendors who lost income and closed their stores due to the oil spill.
Tolentino acknowledged that the process may take time, but he assured that they will do everything to ensure that the victims receive the necessary compensation.
Tolentino made the statement during the distribution of the Presidential Assistance to Farmers, Fisherfolks and their Families (PAFFF) in General Trias, where thousands of beneficiaries received cash assistance from President Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr.
The oil tanker MT Terra Nova sank off the coast of Bataan on July 25, carrying over 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel that spilled into the sea.
Tolentino was among the senators who pushed for a resolution to investigate the sinking of the MT Terra Nova. His office was also one of the first to extend aid to those affected by the oil spill.
