Meralco announced it will implement a rate increase of P0.0327 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) this August, bringing the overall electricity rate for a typical residential customer to P11.6339 per kWh from P11.6012 per kWh last month.

The rate hike translates to an additional P7 in the total electricity bill for customers consuming 200 kWh.

According to Meralco, the rate increase is due to higher transmission charges.
