The Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) is set to revolutionize travel between Metro Manila and Cavite with its much-anticipated Cavite Extension.
The project, which is now at a 97% completion status, promises to cut the travel time from Pasay to Cavite to just 25 to 30 minutes, a significant reduction from the current 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Phase 1: A Leap Forward
The first phase of the extension includes the addition of five new stations from Baclaran to Dr. Santos in Parañaque.
This phase is expected to be operational within the year, marking a major milestone in the project’s progress.
The test run of the 4th Generation trains along the track of its Cavite Extension Phase 1 has been a success, indicating readiness for the upcoming commercial operations.
Phase 2: Bridging Further South
The second phase will extend the line from Dr. Santos Station to Niog in Bacoor, Cavite, further enhancing connectivity and easing the commute for thousands.
Once fully operational, the extension is projected to serve around 800,000 daily passengers, significantly easing traffic congestion and providing a reliable transportation option.
Investment in Progress
The LRT-1 Cavite Extension is a testament to the commitment to improving the country’s public transportation infrastructure.
With over PHP30 billion invested in capital improvement projects, the extension is not just a construction project but a leap towards a more connected and accessible future for commuters.
As the project nears completion, with commercial operations of Phase 1 slated for the fourth quarter of 2024, the excitement is palpable. The extension is expected to be fully operational by 2027, bringing a new era of convenience and efficiency to the daily lives of commuters traveling between Metro Manila and Cavite.
