The Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) strongly supports the renewal of the Manila Electric Company’s (MERALCO) franchise, which serves several areas in Cavite.
Emphasizing the company’s crucial role in providing reliable electricity and advancing national interests, MAP highlights Meralco’s contributions to renewable energy goals, including meaningful participation in the Green Energy Option Program, which underscores their commitment to environmental stewardship.
Meralco also empowers consumers through initiatives such as supporting users who install renewable energy systems under the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA), MAP said.
The company has maintained a system loss rate below the prescribed limit, one of the lowest in the country, MAP noted.
Beyond these achievements, Meralco has nearly achieved “total electrification” in its franchise area. It also collaborates with other utility providers, particularly electric cooperatives, during natural disasters, bolstering the overall power grid of the nation, stressed MAP.
Additionally, Meralco supports government infrastructure projects under the Build, Build, Build and Public-Private Partnerships programs.
MAP urges the House Committee on Legislative Franchises to consider these positive contributions by Meralco and approve the franchise renewal.
This move will ensure stability in the energy sector, benefiting both citizens and the economy, according to MAP.
