Imus Traditional Dance to be Featured in Cannes, France

The short film “Radikals,” centered on the traditional dance of Imus, Cavite known as ‘bakte,’ is set to be screened at the Cannes Critics’ Week 2024.

“Radikals,” directed and written by Arvin Belarmino in collaboration with Imuseño writer Kyla Romero, is the only short film representing not just the Philippines, but the entire Southeast Asia at the 63rd edition of the Cannes Critics’ Week 2024, which will take place from May 15 to 23, 2024 in Cannes, France.

“Radikals” depicts the experiences of a novice dancer in a unique chicken-dance group — featuring the dance ‘bakte’ that originated from Imus and is popular in the province of Cavite — where he received ridicule for his dancing, which sparked a series of eerie events in his life.

“Radikals” is one of the 13 short films part of the Cannes Critics’ Week 2024.
