In a concerted effort to combat illegal drugs, the Philippines’ Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has found an ally in Meralco, the nation’s largest power distributor.

Meralco has pledged full support to the DILG’s “Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan” (BIDA) program, which advocates for drug-free and safe working environments across both public and private sectors.

Recently, Meralco joined DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. on his visit to Kawit, Cavite, to promote the BIDA Program.

The campaign emphasizes the importance of maintaining a drug-free workplace. The event was also attended by Kawit Mayor Angelo G. Aguinaldo.

Meralco, led by Manny V. Pangilinan, is among the companies that have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the DILG.

Under this MOU, Meralco commits to the continuous implementation of a drug-free work environment policy, conducting regular random drug tests for its employees, and organizing orientations and seminars to educate about the adverse effects of illegal drugs.

The initiative was highlighted during a recent event covered by the Kawit Public Information Office.
