ROSARIO, Cavite — A barangay captain has drawn praise after using his own salary to provide free fuel to tricycle drivers in his community amid rising gasoline prices.
Brgy. Capt. Kevin Concha Guijo, 33, personally distributed ₱200 worth of free gasoline each to 50 tricycle drivers in Barangay Ligtong-IV.
Guijo said he acted on his own initiative after repeatedly hearing drivers complain about soaring fuel costs eating into their daily earnings.
“Every time I talk to the tricycle drivers, they always mention that with gasoline prices so high, almost everything they earn from fares goes straight to fuel,” he said.
The barangay captain said he decided to reach into his own pocket to provide at least some relief to the drivers struggling with rising expenses.
Beneficiary drivers expressed deep gratitude for the assistance, saying the aid was a significant help given the daily increase in their operating costs.
The gesture also drew widespread admiration online, with netizens citing it as an example of genuine public service and concern for constituents.
Amid the continuing rise in petroleum prices, many expressed hope that more local leaders would follow Guijo’s example in extending concrete help to those most affected in their communities.
