BSP to keep public services running on Fridays amid gov’t energy drive

MANILA — The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas said Monday it will maintain full public services on Fridays even as the government pursues an energy conservation initiative that has shifted many agencies to a four-day workweek.

Onsite cash operations at the BSP’s head office in Manila, the Security Plant Complex in Quezon City, and regional offices and branches nationwide will remain open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday, the central bank said.

Walk-in transactions involving BSP-acquired real properties, as well as receipt of physical mail and documents from the public, will also continue at the BSP Hub in Manila on Fridays.

The BSP Online Buddy, or BOB, chatbot — accessible through the BSP website, Facebook Messenger, and mobile app — will remain available around the clock to receive complaints against BSP-supervised financial institutions. Consumers may also file complaints via email at [email protected].

The BSP Store will continue processing purchases of commemorative coins and other central bank merchandise through its online platform.

The assurance comes as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration pushes energy-saving measures across the bureaucracy, including an executive order directing most government offices to adopt a compressed workweek schedule, with Fridays designated as non-working days for select agencies.

The BSP, as a key financial regulator and service provider, said it would not adopt the Friday suspension to avoid disruptions to banking operations and public financial transactions.
