BACOOR, Cavite — The Bacoor city government has begun construction of a retarding basin in Barangay Niog to address recurring flooding in the area, Mayor Strike Revilla announced.
Revilla, along with City Engineering Office head Jicky Jutba and Barangay Kapitana Alma Camarce, personally inspected the project site.
The basin, which will reach a depth of 20 feet, is designed to impound rainwater during heavy rains and typhoons, slowing the flow of floodwaters into low-lying communities.
As part of the project, 47 families who had been living in the flood-prone zone were relocated before construction began.
Revilla said the project is a key component of the city’s disaster preparedness program and is aimed at protecting residents from the effects of extreme weather.
