The Department of Public Works and Highways will oversee P1.8 billion in resettlement housing projects this year, including major developments in Cavite, to relocate informal settler families across Metro Manila, Calabarzon and Central Luzon.

Under a Jan. 22 directive, DPWH regional offices will supervise construction under the Comprehensive and Integrated Housing Program and the National Housing Authority’s resettlement program, funded through the 2025 General Appropriations Act.

The Calabarzon regional office will manage construction of multipurpose buildings for housing and resettlement in Rosario, Batangas, Naic, Cavite, and Bacoor City, with a combined budget of P800 million.

In Metro Manila, DPWH will supervise three CIHP projects totaling P700 million in San Juan, Manila and Navotas.

The government estimates about 600,000 informal settler families live in Metro Manila alone, many in danger zones along waterways and railroad tracks. The NHA, the primary government agency addressing urban housing needs, has struggled with funding and implementation delays despite decades of resettlement programs.

The housing program aims to provide safer, more sustainable shelter for families affected by urban development and disaster risk reduction efforts, officials said.
