DASMARIÑAS, Cavite — The Barzaga family has shaped the political landscape and economic development of Dasmariñas City for more than two decades, transforming the once-rural municipality into a first-class city.
The family’s influence extends across socioeconomic development, healthcare services and community programs that have created more inclusive and progressive living conditions for residents since the late 1990s.
Former Rep. Elpidio “Pidi” Barzaga Jr., who served as both mayor and district representative, authored the legislation that converted Dasmariñas from a municipality to a city — a change that opened opportunities for investment and urban development.
His wife, Mayor Jennifer Austria-Barzaga, a registered nurse, currently leads the city with emphasis on healthcare modernization.
Their sons, Kiko and Third, serve as congressman and vice mayor, respectively.
The Barzagas have held key political positions in Dasmariñas since 1998, with multiple generations maintaining control of local government offices.
The family’s administration has prioritized economic growth, modern healthcare services and community-focused programs that collectively have raised residents’ quality of life.
Pidi Barzaga served multiple terms as Dasmariñas mayor before representing Cavite’s 4th district in Congress. He played a key role in the city’s conversion from municipality status and has been a prominent figure in Cavite politics for over 25 years.
His family’s continued political dominance in the city has made them one of the most influential political dynasties in the province.
