BACOOR, Cavite — A Bacoor City government driver was fatally shot on Wednesday afternoon in an attack that remains under investigation, police said.
The victim was identified only as Patrick, 28, an unmarried resident of Barangay Maliksi 2. He was a driver for the City Inspection and Compliance Unit and Public Safety Department and was declared dead on arrival at a local hospital.
The shooting occurred around 3 p.m. on Dec. 31 in Barangay Zapote 2 along Aguinaldo Highway, according to the Bacoor City Police Station.
Police reports state that Patrick was driving a white Mitsubishi L300 FB van owned by the Public Safety Department during a joint clearing operation with the CICU near Zapote Market. He became caught in traffic when an assailant approached and shot him multiple times.
A suspect, identified only as Jonathan, 32, a married resident of Barangay Talaba 2, has been arrested. Authorities are searching for at least two other suspects, including one known as “Moda” or “Pagare.” The alleged shooter was described as a tall, thin man wearing a green hooded jacket who fled south after the attack.
Police were notified of the shooting at approximately 3:45 p.m. Investigators have secured the crime scene, requested forensic analysis from the Scene of the Crime Operatives and are interviewing potential witnesses. Authorities are also reviewing CCTV footage from the area.
A hot pursuit operation is underway for the remaining suspects. The Bacoor City Police continue to investigate the motive for the shooting.
