Cavite Rep. Kiko Barzaga hinted at a possible gubernatorial run in Cavite in 2028, challenging DILG Sec. Jonvic Remulla in a social media post that included accusations of corruption.
“They say Jonvic Remulla will have me jailed because I will run against him as governor in 2028,” Barzaga wrote on Facebook, adding, “You just proved your entire family is corrupt.”
Barzaga, a first-term congressman representing Cavite’s fourth district, did not elaborate on the allegations or indicate whether he would formally declare his candidacy.
Remulla previously served as Cavite governor from 2010 to 2016 and again from 2019 until his appointment as secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government in October 2024.
The post reflects growing political tensions in Cavite ahead of the 2028 national and local elections, when the provincial governorship will be up for election.
