Cavite Areas Face Potential ‘Big One’ Earthquake Risk

Several areas in Cavite could be affected by a major earthquake if the West and East Valley Fault Lines shift, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

PHIVOLCS said the fault system runs from Montalban, Rizal to Calamba, passing through the municipalities of Carmona, Silang and GMA.

Locations near the fault line include:

Carmona:

• Southwoods Phase 6
• Carmona Estates
• Canyon Ranch

GMA:

• Barangay Macario Dacon
• Tinienta Tiago Compound

Silang:

• Richland Hills Phase 1
• The Beacon Academy

The fault line last moved in 1658 and could become active again at any time, PHIVOLCS said. A major earthquake could cause severe ground shaking, ground rupture and infrastructure damage.
