KAWIT, Cavite — Residents of Barangay Tabon Uno’s Waterfield Village are calling on Kawit, Cavite Mayor Armie Aguinaldo and her son Vice-Mayor Angelo Emilio Aguinaldo (former Mayor of Kawit) to take immediate action on chronic flooding that has left Tabon submerged after every rainfall and forced families to repeatedly evacuate during storms.
In an emotional appeal posted on social media, residents expressed frustration over what they describe as years of neglect and unfulfilled promises from Kawit officials led by Aguinaldos.
“We are being left behind,” the residents wrote in their statement, which has circulated widely among affected families. “Until when will we be afraid every time it rains? Until when will our children miss school because even light rain floods our homes?”
The low-lying subdivision, whose name literally references its flood-prone location, faces inundation even during moderate rainfall.
Residents say the recurring floods pose serious health and safety risks to their families and disrupt daily life, including children’s education.
Kawit residents are specifically demanding what they call “proper action” and the compassion municipal leaders promised during campaigns.
They reject the notion that residents should simply endure the conditions because the area has historically been flood-prone.
“This is not right,” the statement reads. “We need action and compassion, not just tolerance because we’ve gotten used to it.”
The residents are urging all Waterfield Village families to amplify their concerns through social media in hopes that officials will finally acknowledge their struggles.
Mayor Aguinaldo’s office has not yet responded to requests for comment on the residents’ demands or any planned flood mitigation projects for the area.
