Cavite Honors Heroism of Telesforo Trinidad on U.S. Memorial Day 2025

IMUS, Cavite – In commemoration of the United States Memorial Day on Monday, May 26, 2025, the City Government of Imus, in cooperation with the United States Retired Activities Office (USRAO) – Cavite, paid tribute to the heroism of Imus native and U.S. Navy Medal of Honor recipient Fireman Second Class Telesforo dela Cruz Trinidad.

A wreath-laying ceremony was held at Trinidad’s gravesite at the Imus Public Cemetery on Tahimik Street, Barangay Toclong 1-A, to honor his bravery and service.

Acting City Mayor Yen Saquilayan, USRAO Cavite Officer-in-Charge Edgardo Onas, and Trinidad’s descendant, Manuel Trinidad, delivered messages during the event.

Also in attendance were Philippine Veterans Affairs Office Deputy Administrator for Operations Assistant Domingo Carbonell Jr.; Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Department of Pacific Areas Immediate Past Commander Alex Fores of Baguio Post 124; VFW Manila Post 12231 Commander Golda Russell; retired U.S. Armed Forces Master Sergeant Danilo De Guzman Jr.; and USRAO Cavite Chaplain Margarito Israel.

Other participants included Councilors Enzo Asistio and Darwin Remulla; Sangguniang Panlungsod Secretary to the Assembly Paeng Alarcon; Acting City Tourism Officer Emanuel Paredes; Barangay Toclong 1-A Chair Tobeng Sañez and his council; members of USRAO Cavite, the Imus Historical Society, and Trinidad’s descendants.

Telesforo Trinidad remains the only Filipino in the U.S. Navy to receive the Medal of Honor, awarded for his heroic actions on Jan. 21, 1915, when he saved the lives of fellow sailors following a boiler explosion aboard the USS San Diego.

Telesforo Trinidad’s legacy of courage and sacrifice continues to be remembered and honored by the people of Cavite.
