The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has expressed full support for the government’s intensified crackdown on illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) following a recent operation led by the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) in Parañaque City.
On Feb. 20, 2025 PAOCC operatives conducted a raid that resulted in the arrest of 453 individuals, including 146 foreign nationals, mostly Chinese.
The BI is preparing for the turnover of those in custody to initiate deportation proceedings, Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said.
“We are closely coordinating with our partner agencies to maximize efforts in identifying and apprehending illegal foreign nationals involved in these illicit activities,” Viado said.
He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to enforcing immigration laws and preventing the resurgence of illegal POGO operations, in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to shut down such activities in the country.
Authorities have identified Kawit, Cavite, as another hotspot for illegal POGO operations, with law enforcement agencies keeping a close watch on the area.
The BI will continue working with law enforcement agencies to strengthen border security and uphold immigration regulations, Viado said.
