ROSARIO, Cavite — A family of three was killed after their fishing boat was struck by lightning while they were out at sea, authorities said.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, August 23, 2024, when the family set out to fish in the waters off Cavite.

However, it was not until early morning that the wife and mother of the victims became aware of the tragedy, as she reported hearing unusual noises in their area.

No one had informed her that her family had been struck by lightning, and it was only when she sought help that the Philippine Coast Guard was alerted to the incident.

Coast Guard personnel from Limay, Bataan, retrieved the sunken boat with the three victims on board and brought it to the shore of Barangay Muzon 2 in Rosario.

Residents in Cavite reported hearing a series of thunderclaps and seeing lightning flashes around 8 p.m. on August 23.

The identities of the victims and the circumstances surrounding the incident were not immediately available.
