TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite — Nearly 200 overseas Filipinos, former overseas workers and their families gathered Wednesday for Cavite province’s 2024 Migrants Day celebration.

The event, held at SM City-Trece Martires, focused on preventing human trafficking and raising awareness about online sexual abuse of children.

Pastor Glenn Edwards of International Justice Mission Philippines opened the program with a call to action against child exploitation.

Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) are the modern-day heroes of the Philippines. These courageous and selfless individuals leave their homes to work abroad, providing for their families back home. Their contributions extend beyond remittances; they embody resilience and sacrifice.

Speakers included Ma. Christina Abalos-Naig, legal services director for the Department of Information and Communications Technology, who discussed laws protecting children online.

Mark Joseph C. Lupangco, an attorney with the Department of Migrant Workers, addressed anti-trafficking legislation.

Engineer Javier Salinas, a former overseas worker honored as part of a model migrant family, shared his experiences.

Government agencies provided services including legal advice, tourism information, dental care for children, and employment assistance.

The Cavite Migration and Development Office organized the event.
