CEBU, Philippines — SM Supermalls joined a coastal cleanup March 21 in observance of World Water Day, removing more than 2,000 kilograms of waste from waterways across the region.
Three hundred eighty employee-volunteers from SM Seaside City Cebu, SM J Mall and SM City Consolacion participated alongside the Cebu Bantay Dagat Commission in simultaneous cleanups targeting marine and riverine pollution.
At the South Road Properties, 300 volunteers from SM Seaside City Cebu, SM J Mall and National University Cebu collected 1,321 kilograms of waste, much of it plastic debris and other nonbiodegradable materials.
Eighty volunteers from SM City Consolacion cleaned along the Laray Riverside, removing 828 kilograms of waste.
The total waste collected was 2,149 kilograms.
The effort is part of SM Supermalls’ broader sustainability initiatives, including waste management and community engagement programs tied to global observances.
