PDEA destroys P4.56B worth of illegal drugs in Cavite

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite — Authorities on Tuesday destroyed more than P4.56 billion worth of confiscated illegal drugs at a waste management facility, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, together with the Department of the Interior and Local Government and other agencies, led the destruction of P4,563,517,903.02 worth of dangerous drugs through thermal decomposition at the Integrated Waste Management Inc. facility in Barangay Aguado.

A total of 1,136.5521 kilograms of solid illegal drugs and 657.13 milliliters of liquid substances were incinerated, PDEA said.

The haul included 555.2393 kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as shabu; 442.9399 kilograms of marijuana; 117.3860 kilograms of cocaine; 1.6651 kilograms of MDMA or ecstasy; 15.8149 kilograms of ephedrine; and 0.5070 kilogram of ketamine.

Liquid substances destroyed included amphetamine, liquid methamphetamine, marijuana extracts, toluene and assorted surrendered expired medicines.

PDEA officials emphasized transparency and accountability in the process, which was witnessed by representatives from various government agencies.

The drugs were seized in anti-narcotics operations conducted nationwide.
