CAVITE — A former irrigation access road in Cavite is becoming one of the province’s most important commercial thoroughfares as development accelerates along the corridor.
The Daang Hari Extension, previously known as the Open Canal, was originally maintained by the National Irrigation Administration as an access route for irrigation canals.
The road was later widened to connect with Daang Hari Road, linking Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, Bacoor, Imus and General Trias, with plans to extend to Tanza.
Infrastructure improvements have driven the transformation from farm-to-market road to major highway.
The completion of the Malagasang Flyover and widening of key sections have improved accessibility and spurred commercial development.
Commercial establishments have emerged in Malagasang, reflecting growing economic activity. Development of SM City General Trias and large-scale projects in Riverpark are expected to fuel further expansion.
Road widening from Arnaldo Highway to Governor Ferrer Drive will support new commercial districts in Lancaster New City Zone 2 and Riverpark South.
The planned CALAX-Open Canal Interchange is expected to boost development further.
Major projects including Villar City, Vermosa and Riverpark are anticipated to drive economic growth in Cavite.
