A fire broke out in Barangay Pulvorista, Kawit, Cavite early Thursday morning, February 8, 2024, leaving 74 families or 260 individuals homeless.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Kawit, the fire started at around 12:41 a.m. and reached the second alarm at 12:48 a.m. The fire was declared under control at 2:07 a.m. and was completely put out at 3:51 a.m.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but initial reports said that it may have been triggered by faulty electrical wiring.
The BFP Kawit said that no one was injured or killed in the incident, but some firefighters were reportedly attacked by some residents who were trying to salvage their belongings.
The BFP Kawit appealed to the public to cooperate with the authorities and not to harm the firefighters who are risking their lives to put out the fire.
The BFP Kawit also reminded the residents to follow the fire safety tips and regulations that they regularly disseminate in different barangays.
The local government of Kawit reportedly has provided relief assistance and temporary shelter to the affected families. The LGU also vowed to help them rebuild their homes as soon as possible.
