Thousands of individuals participated in the 39th International Coastal Cleanup in various towns of Cavite province last weekend, collecting tons of trash in the process.
According to reports, the activities were themed “Be Part of the solution on the Ocean Trash and #SeaTheChange” and involved massive clean up drives in areas such as Sitio Dulong Pulo Mangrove Area in Bacoor City, Sitio Pulo in Cavite City, and Barangay Kaingen in Kawit.
Bacoor City Mayor Strike Revilla led the activity, which was also part of the city’s 353rd Founding Anniversary and Bakood Festival, in partnership with the City Environment and Natural Resources Office.
In Cavite City, Mayor Denver Chua led the clean up drive along the Sangley Airport access road in Barangay 1, where hundreds of volunteers from the Department of Education, local police, coast guard, and non-government organizations participated.
Cavite 1st District board member Davey Chua and the Local Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office also led a cleanup in Sitio Long Beach, Barangay San Rafael, with the majority of volunteers coming from various public and private schools in the area.
The activities were part of the local governments’ efforts to protect the environment and combat pollution in the province’s coastlines.
