Corio Generation, an offshore energy developer, has deployed Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) instruments for its wind projects in Cavite and Guimaras, Philippines.
These instruments, which will be operational for 12 months, will collect data on the wind resources of the wind farms in these areas.
Alma Roxas-Aguila, Corio Generation’s development director for the Philippines, stated that the successful deployment of LiDARs is a significant achievement as they continue to develop their projects off the coast of the Philippines.
The company has five projects contracted with the Department of Energy in Cavite, Batangas, Mindoro, IIoilo, and Guimaras, totaling 3 gigawatts (GW).
Alejandro de Hoz, Corio Generation’s deputy chief executive, met with Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla to commend the government’s expansion of renewable energy sources in the country.
De Hoz praised the Philippines for its commitment to the green energy transition and noted the country’s abundant natural resources and numerous suitable sites for offshore wind power.
Corio Generation, one of the world’s leading specialist offshore wind developers, has been exploring multiple opportunities in the country and is optimistic about participating in future auctions.
The company has proven financial and technical expertise in pioneering fixed bottom and floating wind farms.
